JE Technology Desk: Google showcased a slew of AI features in its app catalogue at I/O 2023 that will debut later this year. As the company aims to materialise these commitments, it has announced new updates to Google Lens, Maps and Gmail. Updates in Lens include the ability to search skin conditions. The company is expanding Immersive View to more cities on Google Maps. Lastly, Help Me Write in Gmail is expanding to Android and iOS users.
Here are all details about these newly launched features.
Google Lens: Identify Skin Conditions
A user can click a photo, select the area you want Lens to find out more about and upload it to explore similar matches and find more about the skin condition.
"This feature also works if you're not sure how to describe something else on your body, like a bump on your lip, a line on your nails or hair loss on your head," a company representative wrote in a blog.
Google Maps: Immersive View, glanceable directions and more
The tech giant showcased Immersive View at its May 2023 event. It uses AI to mix billions of images to forge a 3D view of the world. This feature is rolling to more cities and will incorporate 500 landmarks around the world.
Secondly, the company also launched glanceable directions in Google Maps to track the progress of a trip from the lock screen that was earlier available from the app. It will roll out to users this month.
Thirdly, Recents on desktop can help organise researched places in an organised highlight on the left side in Google Maps. The app will prepare a custom route for three or more places so that a user can explore all of them.
Gmail: 'Help Me Write' now in your hands
9To5Google reported that "Help Me Write" is now rolling out to enrolled testers on Android and iOS. A user is welcomed with an introductory prompt of the AI tool. Once a user taps on the button, a user can enter a prompt and further "Refine" the text via different modes: "Formalise, Elaborate, Shorten, I'm Feeling Lucky, and Write a draft."
Earlier this month, the company rolled out a feature to refine searches on the Gmail app on smartphones.
