Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are all set to launch on October 4. While we are a month away from launch, media reports regularly leak information about the devices. In the latest update, there were rumours that the Pixel 8 Pro may omit the physical SIM card slot and switch to eSIMs. However, this was negated in a fresh set of leaks.
According to sources cited by 9To5Google, the claims of the eSIM-only variants are "exaggerated", and the physical SIM slot will likely not retire in the upcoming Pixel phones. If the phones sport only e-SIM functionality at launch, they could act as direct rivals to the Apple iPhone 14 series which does not have a physical SIM card slot in select markets.
Further, the report added that the Pro model could have Night Sight for videos. This option will allow better video recording in low light. This could be among the key highlights that Google could flaunt at the event in October.
Talking of predecessors, the Google Pixel 7 Pro came with Cineamitc Blur for videos (like portrait mode). The earlier models arrived with Night Sight for photos. It seems Google polishes the feature for images first and then pushes them into the video segment.
Moving to other leaked specifications, the Pixel 8 will likely have a 6.17-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel, Google Tensor G3, Android 14, 4,485mAh battery with 24W wired and 12W wireless charging, 50MP primary and 12MP ultra-wide on the back and a 10.8MP selfie lens.
Coming to the 8 Pro, the flagship may arrive with a 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED panel, Tensor G3, Android 14, 4,950mAh cell with 27W wired charging, 50MP main, 64MP ultra-wide and 48MP telephoto lens on the rear and a 10.8MP selfie camera. As for other leaks, the company is also tipped to launch the Pixel Watch 2 at the same event.
