JE Technology Desk: After Microsoft, Google is the new regular headline grabber for introducing AI features in its apps and products. But it seems the company wants to be cautious about its use in the workplace. The company has cautioned its staff on how they use AI chatbots, which include Bard, Google's competitive answer to ChatGPT, Reuters, citing sources reported.

Alphabet, Google's parent company, advised employees to not enter confidential information into these AI models, sources told the news outlet and the company citing its policy on information safeguard confirmed.

ChatGPT and Bard are among the popular generative AI tools that can answer a wide range of queries in a conversational form. But the concern is the use of this data in training and getting reviewed by "human reviewers." The alert also stretched against the direct use of computer code generated by these models. Bard can make "undesired code suggestions," the company cited as the reason for the move.

The company is not among the first to alarm a similar warning to its staff. Top smartphone makers, Apple and Samsung, have also reportedly warned their staff against the use of AI in the workplace to avoid sensitive data leaks.

Reuters, citing Insider, reported that the company told its staff not to supply internal details to the Bard during its testing before launch. A privacy notice updated on June 1 by the company states, "Don't include confidential or sensitive information in your Bard conversations." Meanwhile, Bard is now rolling out to over 180 countries and 40 languages.

ChatGPT and Bard are in an AI race to crack the emerging market. They save the conversation history of users, which they can delete later. Google jumped on the AI bandwagon after OpenAI's chatGPT became the favourite tool of the internet lately after its launch last year.

The company announced a slew of AI upgrades, including Help Me Write in Gmail, Immersive View in Maps, Duet AI for Workspace and more at its I/O 2023 event. These commitments started materialising soon after the announcement.
