GOOGLE shared a plethora of products at the I/O event in 2023, including a new way of exploring its search engine with artificial intelligence. The tech giant labelled the enhancements as Search Generative Experience.
While the looks remain more or less unchanged, the difference will be in the answers. If the search finds that a user query can be better addressed by generative AI, it will consolidate output on top of the result page, Reuters reported. This would be followed by typical search responses.

In an explained instance, if a user searches "weather San Francisco," the traditional week-long update will appear. But the magic happens when a user enters a query about what to wear in California. "You should bring layers, including a short-sleeved shirt and a light sweater or jacket for the day," the result said, citing web links for the source, Reuters reported.
A "conversational mode" like Bard and ChatGPT would store the context of user queries so that they can get back to or ask for follow-ups. However, the company stressed it would not mimic a chatbot. The aim is to "hone" search results. For instance, the results would never have addressed itself in the first person with phrases such as 'I' compared to other AI models. The AI would also recommend more questions that a user can ask the AI.
A new shopping experience with a foundation from Google's Shopping Graph would present updated reviews, prices, images and more. However, Google cautioned on the accuracy of the results despite its decades-long legacy of high-quality results.
Google Search AI features availability
Users in the US can register on a waitlist to try out the Search Generative Experience in the monitored phase. Google would scan the "quality, speed and cost" of search results. The experiment in Search Labs will initially be available on Chrome desktop and the Google App on Android and iOS in English.
Meanwhile, other AI announcements at the event include upgraded Bard, PaLM 2, Duet AI and more.
