PAN is not just another ID. It’s your digital financial fingerprint in India. Every high-value transaction, every bank account, every investment, every tax filing — the system maps it back to your 10-digit PAN. That’s why the government doesn’t treat PAN casually. And you shouldn’t either. PAN isn’t only for Indian citizens. NRIs and foreign nationals who need to transact or invest in India also require one. Now if you’ve recently applied for a new PAN or requested a reprint, you shouldn’t be waiting blindly. You can check the status yourself online, and it literally takes less than a minute.

Why check PAN status online?

Because here’s the reality: delays happen. Courier issues, KYC mismatches, document verification hold-ups — anything can slow the process. Tracking it online gives you clarity. You immediately know if it’s under process, approved, printed, dispatched, or if there’s a query you need to handle.

And most people don’t realise this — PAN status is not locked to just one portal. You can check it from two official government-authorised platforms: NSDL and UTITSL.

Checking PAN status through NSDL

Follow these steps:

1. Go to the official NSDL PAN status page

2. Under “Application Type”, choose PAN – New / Change Request

3. Enter your Acknowledgement Number you received in email from NSDL

4. Enter the captcha

5. Hit Submit

You’ll now see your live application status. If the card is already processed, you’ll likely see dispatch/update information there.

Checking PAN status through UTITSL

Steps:

1. Go to the UTITSL PAN card status page

2. Enter the Application Coupon Number you received through email

3. Alternatively, enter your PAN Number instead

4. Enter the captcha

5. Hit Submit

Your status will now display — whether it is still under process, approved for printing, or already reprinted and dispatched.

Final thought

Once your status shows “issued” or “processed”, your PAN will be delivered to your registered address. Keep in mind: the soft ePAN also has the same value for most KYC and digital onboarding journeys. So once it’s approved, you can often download the ePAN even before the physical card arrives.
