After iPhone 15 series launch date rumours, a reliable tipster has given us shocking details that might confuse Apple fans planning to buy the upcoming phones. While the tech giant maintains the difference between the standard and the 'Pro' variants by offering fewer upgrades to vanilla trims, things could change in the camera department this time.
Ming-Chi Kuo, a reputed name for Apple-related leaks, claims iPhone 15 standard models will "adapt stacked-designed CIS [Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor image sensor]," which may be missing on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. However, the analyst added the iPhone 16 Pro series will have this technology.
"Following two 2H23 iPhone 15 standard models, two 2H24 iPhone 16 Pro models will also adopt stacked-designed CIS, so Sony's high-end CIS capacity will continue to be tight in 2024," Kuo said.
According to HT Tech, the new stacked CIS camera system adds extra layers on the photodiode layer that improves the overall "circuitry" of the system. It can help in brighter images, lower noise levels and churn enhanced details during image processing. However, the magnitude of these improvements can only be estimated after the launch.
This high-end upgrade in the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus could be an attempt to make the offerings a lucrative option for camera enthusiasts. However, these details have not been confirmed by Apple and may vary at the time of launch. Leaks in the past claimed that the base and Plus trims may get a 48MP Sony IMX803 camera lens on the back, an upgrade from the standard 12MP lens.
