Apple iPhone 16e Launch: Apple has made some changes to its lineup in India following the release of the new iPhone 16e, discontinuing a few older models to make way for this latest addition. Notably, the third-generation iPhone SE, which was launched in 2022, has been phased out. The iPhone 16e comes with several upgrades over the previous SE model, such as the powerful A18 chip that supports Apple Intelligence and a USB Type-C charging port.
In addition to the iPhone SE, Apple seems to have removed the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models from its official website after the introduction of the iPhone 16e. Although these older models are no longer available on Apple’s site, they can still be found at third-party retailers like Flipkart and Amazon or through refurbished stores. However, stocks for these models are expected to dwindle soon, considering they were launched back in 2022.
The iPhone SE (2022) originally launched in March 2022, with a starting price of Rs. 43,900. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus were introduced in September 2022 at prices of Rs. 79,900 and Rs. 89,900, respectively. With the arrival of the iPhone 16e, the older models are gradually being removed from Apple’s direct sales channels. Notably, the company had previously discontinued the iPhone 15 Pro series and iPhone 13 models last year when the iPhone 16 family launched.
Interestingly, Apple also began pulling the iPhone 14 and iPhone SE models from its online stores in several European countries after the European Union passed a new law mandating USB Type-C charging ports for most devices.
Currently, Apple’s portfolio consists of the iPhone 15 series, iPhone 16 series, and the newly introduced iPhone 16e. It’s expected that the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be discontinued once the iPhone 17 lineup is unveiled.
iPhone 16e: Price and Features
The iPhone 16e is priced at Rs. 59,900 for the base model with 128GB of storage, with higher configurations available at Rs. 69,900 for 256GB and Rs. 89,900 for 512GB. Pre-orders for the device will begin on February 21, with sales officially starting on February 28.
The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate and is powered by the A18 chip, built on a 3nm process. Running on iOS 18, the device supports Apple Intelligence features and offers impressive performance. It comes with a 48-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera for high-quality selfies and video calls. The phone also boasts an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
In terms of charging, the iPhone 16e supports a USB Type-C port, offering 18W wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging. The addition of Apple’s proprietary C1 cellular modem enhances its efficiency, marking another step forward for the company in terms of performance and connectivity.
