Apple, a Cupertino-based tech giant, updates its vintage and obsolete products list at regular intervals. In a recent reclassification, the company has marked the iPhone X, 1st generation HomePod and AirPods as "vintage". These products appeared on the updated list today. According to the tech giant, an Apple product is considered vintage when the company stops distributing it for sale for over five years but less than seven years.
According to MacRumors, repairs for these products at Apple stores and authorised service points may be offered for up to two more years. However, these are subject to the availability of the parts. For context, the iPhone X was announced in September 2017 and went on sale on November 3, 2017. It debuted with a revamped design and updated hardware.
Plus, the smartphone skipped the home button and introduced a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED screen with minimum bezels at the bottom. As a replacement for Touch ID, the iPhone X offered a Face ID-based authentication system. Under the hood, it was powered by an A11 Bionic chipset and a dedicated Neural Engine for machine learning tasks.
iPhone X offered wireless charging and a stainless steel frame with a glass back for a premium touch and feel. As for the first HomePod, it was announced on June 5, 2017, at the WWDC and released next year in February. At $349, the device offered a premium audio experience while having close integrations with the Apple ecosystem apps like Apple Music and AirPlay.
