LENOVO gaming handsets got enveloped in a silent wind of shutdown after an individual, possibly a Lenovo associate, posted about a possible business shut of the gaming smartphones division (popularly known as the Legion smartphone series) by the Chinese giant. And these speculations turned out to be true when a company spokesperson confirmed the matter to Android Authority in a statement.

The tech platform reached out to the Laptop major for a response to the query. A spokesperson from the company confirmed the closure due to a "business transformation and gaming portfolio consolidation." However, this is not a total bummer for the users as the Taiwanese gaming competitor Asus still has the fire burning in the form of the ROG lineup.

Android Authority quoted the official spokesperson stating, "Lenovo is discontinuing its Android-based Legion mobile gaming phones as part of a wider business transformation and gaming portfolio consolidation. As a leader in gaming devices and solutions, Lenovo is committed to advancing the gaming category across form factors, as well as focusing on where it can bring the most value to the global gaming community."

No further remarks on the affected staff or product support for existing devices are available from official channels. The Legion Y70 was the company's latest offering in the lineup, according to The Indian Express. Lenovo entered the gameplay market of smartphones in 2020, as per 9To5Google.

The competition is pretty less in India for gaming handhelds. Asus is the only notable OEM that manufactures full-fledged gaming phones. No other competitor comes to mind with gameplay-focused optimisation of a handset. Black Shark has not debuted a handset in India from times immemorable. Chances are pretty less it will make a comeback to contest Asus's arena of gaming handsets.

Meanwhile, speaking of other updates in the tech space, the ROG Phone 7 and the Phone 7 Ultimate are rumoured to come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU and a gaming skin on top of Android 13. The series will debut on April 13.
