JE Technology Desk: Mercedes-Benz, a premium car maker, announced that it is expanding the use of AI in its cars with the help of ChatGPT. By integrating the OpenAI's language model, Hey Mercedes voice commands in the MBUX Voice Assistant will "become even more intuitive."
The beta program to test the feature will roll out in the US from July 16 for over 9 lakh vehicles that sport an MBUX infotainment system. Customers can enrol in the Mercedes me app or use the existing voice assistance by saying, "Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta programme" to register for the OTA update.
The service rollout will be a product of the integration of Azure OpenAI service, the enterprise-grade capabilities of Microsoft and OpenAI.
While the MBUX Voice Assistant offers "intuitive" operation, this integration can help users to get comprehensive details about their trips, weather updates, and more. "Our beta programme boosts the existing Hey Mercedes functions such as navigation queries, weather requests and others with the capabilities of ChatGPT. This way, we aim to support conversations with natural dialogues and follow-up questions," said Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
The carmaker highlighted that voice commands data will be stored in the "Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, where it is anonymised and analysed". This beta program is expected to last for three months before a final rollout. These findings will help improve the product and help streamline a strategy for a wider rollout across countries and languages.
Speaking of ChatGPT, introduced last year, the OpenAI's language model can help a user summarise textual content, answer queries, generate codes and do more. Following the rise of the AI model, Microsoft partnered with OpenAI and took nearly all its products on an AI integration spree.
