JE Technology Desk: Microsoft Bing has been in the news for supercharging its search engine with AI backed by ChatGPT, a language model by OpenAI. And it sources data from the internet to respond to user queries, but this is set to change. In the latest attempt to improve user experience, Microsoft is planning a feature that will prevent access to the internet for Bing AI to answer user queries quickly.

According to The Indian Express, every time a user enters a query on the chat model, it surfs the internet to source data rather than glancing at its own database (what ChatGPT does). It sometimes leads to slower response as Bing scans through the internet for information. As a fix to the problem, the company is working on an option to disable Bing Search from accessing the internet for responses.

The update comes in a tweet from Mikhail Parakhin, CEO of Advertising and Web Services at Microsoft, who said: "Yes, #nosearch is coming." Parakhin did not reveal more details on this but added earlier that it would shrink the time taken by Bing to return a query and lead to a finer user experience.

The Microsoft official's remarks came as a reply to a user query who flagged how new Bing moves to the internet for "every little thing", which was not the case earlier. Currently, the engine ignores the request to not search online, which is hampering its "coding and math" skills, the Twitter user adds.

This update will make Bing AI usable in a wide range of conditions, including slow connectivity and lack of data connection. The report noted this will enable the AI model to frame "precise and focused" answers.

AI-powered Bing is among the popular chat models you can check out for conversational responses for free, besides Google Bard and ChatGPT. The tech giant continuously adds upgrades to the model to improve user experience.
