Microsoft Windows Down Update: As Microsoft Windows users faced a significant outage due to the recent "crowd strike update", the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), functioning under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, issued an advisory to amplify awareness around the recent Windows update that crashed the system of users and shared walkarounds to fix the issue.

Besides Microsoft Windows, the CERT-In advisory comes amid the recent outage across Microsoft services ranging from Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Store and more. This resulted in a massive disruption in telecommunication, airlines, banks, and more services in India and the world. While informing users of the update, CERT-In shared a walkaround to fix the issue.

"It has been reported that Windows hosts related to Crowd Strike agent Falcon Sensor are facing outages and getting crashed due to recent update received in the product. The concerned Windows hosts are experiencing a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), related to Falcon Sensor," the description of the advisory read.

 

"The issues occurred in the latest update of CrowdStrike and the changes have been reverted by the CrowdStrike Team," it added. If the hosts continue to crash or are "unable to receive Channel Files Changes", users can try out the following walkaround.

Step 1: Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment

Step 2: Head to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory

Step 3: Locate "C-00000291*.sys" file and delete this file

Step 4: Now boot the host

CERT-In also stated users must check the CrowdSrike portal for latest updates. Meanwhile, the Blue screen of death error may show up when the OS of a Windows PC crashes and the system fails to boot into Windows again. This may be caused due to a hardware or software change. Meanwhile, the Indian government is also in touch with Microsoft concerning the latest outage.
