Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, defended Telegram founder Pavel Durov on Sunday, claiming that Mark Zuckerberg should be detained instead for his "massive child exploitation" issue on Instagram, which is owned by Meta.

The billionaire responded when Pavel Durov, the founder and owner of the well-known encrypted messaging app Telegram, who was born in Russia, was detained in France on multiple charges pertaining to his platform and may spend up to 20 years in jail if proven guilty. March Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, has "already caved into censorship pressure," according to Musk.

"It's 2030 in Europe and you're being executed for liking a meme," he continued.

The tech billionaire said, "It is crucial to the support of free speech that you forward X posts to people you know, especially in countries that heavily censor speech."

During a Senate hearing on Capitol Hill in February of this year, Zuckerberg expressed regret to the families of victims of online child sex abuse.

The multibillionaire businessman apologised to the parents for everything they had to endure. Nobody ought to endure what your families have gone through.

“Instagram has a big problem with child exploitation, but Zuck has not been arrested because he bans free speech and provides governments with backdoor access to user data,” according to the X owner.

“And this is why we invest so much and we are going to continue doing industry-wide efforts to make sure no one has to go through the things your families have had to suffer,” he added.

In May this year, Musk said that Zuckerberg-run Meta is "super greedy" at taking credit for advertisers who run campaigns on its platform.

The X owner replied, "we are terrible at claiming credit, and Meta is super greedy at claiming credit.”

The rivalry between Musk and Zuckerberg is well known. They were apparently set for a “cage fight’ some time back -- dubbed as the fight of the century. However, the much-anticipated showdown between the duo was cancelled.
