MWC 2024 Updates: Chinese smartphone maker OPPO is gearing up to improve your experience in the augmented reality space with its new AR glasses. The company showcased the prototype of the XR (extended reality) device at the Mobile World Congress 2024. It has a voice assistant and uses artificial intelligence to enhance the wearer's experience.
The design is similar to the glasses people wear in their daily lives. These allow users to view virtual content in a real-world backdrop in front of their eyes once a user wears them. According to CNBC, this content can include a message or navigation. They can be controlled using the touch-based sensors on the frame after connecting to an OPPO handset.
It is powered by the company's AndesGPT large language model (LLM), which will be available in China. The chat model can "perform information searches and conduct conversations to assist users in tasks like planning travel," citing OPPO, the report noted. The company believes smart glasses can become the best companion for a smartphone and become a carrier of AI due to their visual and voice interactions.

As for the specifications, it weighs 50g. The glasses have a peak eye brightness of over 1,000nits. They offer a refractive index of 1.70 via the resin waveguide developed by OPPO. Users can control music, voice calls, interact with the display, browse photos and more. It offers four mics for noise suppression and enhanced audio output.
The Air Glass 3 XR has a full-colour display to stream content. Because it is a prototype, the device will not be available for buyers yet. Meanwhile, a range of other innovative technologies gained attention at the MWC 2024 event. Lenovo showcased a transparent display laptop, Energizer presented a 28,000mAh battery smartphone, and Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Ring.
