Do note that the HD quality icon would come up to display when the users are trying to send large-quality photos through WhatsApp. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty about how big the file size would be in order to get the HD icon and what should be the minimum image size.

Additionally, the feature is currently available for beta testers and would be available for the public in the future with upcoming updates. The report also mentions that the feature is only limited to photos only and there is no way that a user can send a better-quality video except for sending it as a document. The feature is also not available for users sharing photos for status updates.

Further, the HD photos will get an HD mark after you share them. Currently, there is only a single Standard quality for WhatsApp users which basically reduces the quality of the image in order to share it fast and easily.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp banned over 74 lakh Indian accounts during the month of April as a part of protective measures in order to fight spam and abuse.
