OnePlus has officially confirmed that the OnePlus 15R will arrive in India on December 17, launching alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2. While the company has purposely held back on full specifications, several confirmed details and early hints already paint a clear picture of what to expect. For anyone torn between buying the OnePlus 15 right now or waiting a few days for the OnePlus 15R, the early comparisons reveal some compelling differences that could save buyers a substantial amount of money.

Processor Differences Set The Tone
The OnePlus 15 arrives with Qualcomm’s top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, the fastest processor available in the company’s flagship lineup. The OnePlus 15R, however, will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. It does not reach the same peak performance as the Elite variant, but expectations remain high for power efficiency and raw speed, especially for users who want flagship-grade output without paying flagship prices.
Massive Battery and Charging Boost
OnePlus has already confirmed that the 15R will feature a 7,400mAh battery — a size that even surpasses the OnePlus 15. The device is expected to support 80W fast charging, putting endurance and reliability at the centre of its appeal. Combined with the more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, the 15R is positioned to deliver standout battery life.

The device is also believed to be closely related to the OnePlus Ace 6T launched in China, strengthening speculation around its hardware profile.
Display And Durability Take A Leap
OnePlus has already revealed multiple details through its official website. The OnePlus 15R will feature a 165Hz display, positioning it among the fastest refresh-rate phones in its segment. For durability, the device offers a rare set of protections: IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K, giving it quad IP-rating support that goes far beyond standard mid-range durability.
Camera Setup Shows Clear Differences
Based on the design renders shared by OnePlus, the OnePlus 15R will feature a dual-camera system. It is expected to include a 50MP primary wide lens and an 8MP ultra-wide lens, along with support for 4K video recording at up to 120fps. While simpler than the flagship’s triple-camera layout, the 15R is also expected to receive OnePlus’s new DetailMax engine, which replaces the older Hasselblad partnership. This should deliver improved sharpness and dynamic range even with fewer sensors.
The OnePlus 15, in comparison, features a more advanced triple-camera array with 50MP wide, 50MP telephoto and 50MP ultra-wide shooters, powered by the same DetailMax engine. Users who rely heavily on telephoto zoom will immediately feel the difference between the two models.
Design And Expected Pricing
The OnePlus 15R’s design marks a big shift from the earlier 13R series. Official images released by the company show a layout closely mirroring the flagship OnePlus 15, with subtle refinements, a smoother frame and a green colourway that matches its premium positioning. The visual similarities between the 15 and 15R indicate that OnePlus intends to offer a near-flagship aesthetic at a more aggressive price point.

Reports suggest the OnePlus 15R may launch around ₹45,000 in India. If this holds true, it would sit far below the OnePlus 15, which starts at ₹72,999. While the pricing is yet to be confirmed, the expected gap makes the 15R an attractive value-centric alternative for buyers waiting for a powerful yet more affordable OnePlus flagship-class device.
Should You Wait Or Buy Now?
If you want the best camera performance, maximum processing power and flagship-grade features, the OnePlus 15 stands above the 15R. But if long battery life, fast display tech, premium design and strong performance at a lower price matter more, waiting for the OnePlus 15R might be the smarter choice. The upcoming launch will clarify the final details, but early information already positions the 15R as one of OnePlus’s most interesting mid-flagship options in years.
