The iPhone 17 Pro series seems to have landed in yet another controversy. Just a month after launch, several users are reporting that their Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are mysteriously changing colour — shifting from a bright orange tone to a pale, pinkish shade.
The iPhone 17 lineup, which includes the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, was unveiled to much fanfare. But now, social media platforms like Reddit are flooded with posts showing photos and videos of the discolouration issue. Many claim the anodised aluminium frame of the Orange variant is to blame.

Although the authenticity of every claim isn’t confirmed, the images circulating online clearly show some iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max units appearing more pink than orange. Users are questioning whether this is a quality issue or a reaction caused by cleaning products.

Why the iPhone 17 Pro Might Be Losing Its Colour
As cited by PCMag, Apple has warned users not to use certain cleaning agents on their devices. The company says, “Don't use products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide.” These peroxide-based cleaners can react with the phone’s aluminium frame, damaging the anodised finish and potentially altering its colour.
Instead, Apple recommends cleaning with “a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe, 75% ethyl alcohol wipe, or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes.”
It’s possible that users experiencing the colour shift might have unknowingly used stronger chemicals—or touched the device after handling such products—causing the reaction. And as the original piece jokingly noted, “You could even try it with your iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max and accidentally end up with Apple’s ‘new colour variant,’ jk.”
Netizens React: From Roasts to Defences
Social media hasn’t missed a beat. Some users are poking fun at the situation, writing, “I bought the orange HOPING for this,” while others have jumped in to defend Apple.
One Reddit user commented, “Mine is still orange, bought day 1,” only for another to reply, “Of course yours is still orange. This whole thing is a fake setup. Wait a few weeks and you won’t hear about this anymore.”
Apple Yet to Comment on the Pink iPhone Phenomenon
At the moment, it’s unclear whether this is a widespread issue or a few isolated incidents amplified online. However, reports of the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max changing colour continue to surface.

For now, it’s safe to say that the Orange iPhone 17 Pro might just be getting a little too rosy for comfort.
