Airtel Perplexity Pro: Bharti Airtel has made a significant tie-up with AI search engine platform Perplexity, providing its premium Perplexity Pro subscription absolutely free for the entire year to all Airtel users—mobile, Wi-Fi, as well as DTH users.

Typically, this AI subscription is priced at ₹17,000 per annum, but it will now be available for free to Airtel's huge user base of 360 million subscribers.

Perplexity Pro is not your average search engine. Rather than simply providing web links, it gives users authenticated, natural-sounding answers, facilitating extended research, creative exploration of ideas, and increased productivity. The offering involves unlimited Pro searches, document-based answer file uploads, image creation, as well as access to advanced AI models such as GPT-4.1 and Claude. Subscribers also get entry into Perplexity Labs, a sandbox for building and testing AI-driven ideas.

Airtel Thanks App

Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman & MD of Bharti Airtel, called the partnership a milestone for AI in India:

“We’re thrilled to announce a game-changing partnership with Perplexity, bringing their cutting-edge AI capabilities exclusively for Airtel customers. This collaboration will bring the powerful and real-time knowledge tool for millions of users at their fingertips, at no extra cost. This first-of-its-kind Gen-AI partnership in India is focused on helping our customers navigate the emerging trends in the digital world with confidence and ease.”

To claim the free subscription, users simply need to access it through the Airtel Thanks app.

Airtel’s move comes at a time of intense competition in the telecom space. The telco is aiming to not just retain but expand its subscriber base, especially in the face of Reliance Jio’s growing dominance. As of May 31, Airtel had roughly 390 million wireless users compared to Jio’s 472 million, and while Airtel added just 275,000 users that month, Jio saw 2.7 million new subscribers.

Aravind Srinivas, Co-founder & CEO of Perplexity, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration:

“This partnership is an exciting way to make accurate, trustworthy, and professional-grade AI accessible to more people in India—whether a student, working professional, or managing a household. With Perplexity Pro, users get a smarter, easier way to find information, learn, and get more done.”

The offer aims to appeal to a wide audience—students, professionals, homemakers, and travellers alike—delivering a valuable AI experience without any added cost.
