Redmi's next smartphone could be its biggest yet. A fresh leak suggests the Xiaomi sub-brand is testing a handset with a display measuring around 7 inches, a noticeable jump from the screen sizes found on its current lineup. If the information is accurate, the company could be preparing a new device aimed at users who want a larger display without stepping into foldable territory.

The leak comes from tipster Digital Chat Station, who claims Redmi is currently evaluating two new smartphones. One of them is said to feature a 6.59-inch display and is expected to slot into the Pro segment. The second model is the more interesting of the two, with a rumoured 7-inch screen and hardware that could focus on delivering stronger performance. Although the tipster didn't directly name Redmi, the details are widely believed to be about the Xiaomi brand, given the source's track record with unreleased Redmi devices.

The rumour also doesn't appear out of nowhere. Earlier this year, the same tipster had revealed that two smartphone brands were experimenting with displays close to 7 inches, though their identities were kept under wraps.

More details surfaced a few months later. In April, another leak claimed Redmi was working on a phone that paired a 7-inch display with a huge 10,000mAh battery. That was followed by another report suggesting the same device could use a 2K panel with a high refresh rate. Those claims echoed an even earlier rumour that linked a 7-inch 2K display to a future Redmi K100 series smartphone.

Redmi has already been pushing towards larger displays. The recently launched K90 Ultra, for example, comes with a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel and a 165Hz refresh rate. Moving from there to a full 7-inch display wouldn't be a dramatic leap, making the latest leak seem more believable.

The trend isn't limited to Redmi either. Digital Chat Station recently claimed that Honor is testing a smartphone with a 7-inch display capable of a 185Hz refresh rate. Another Honor handset is also said to be in development with a 6.89-inch screen and a next-generation 2nm chipset.

At the moment, most flagship smartphones still stop short of the 7-inch mark. Devices such as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro Max all sit at around 6.9 inches or below. If these leaks eventually turn out to be accurate, 2026 could be the year manufacturers start treating 7-inch smartphones as the next step for traditional flagship devices.
