The two new phones – Galaxy A37 and A57 – are expected to be announced by Samsung in India on April 1, 2022. And with a new release date come reworked prices for several of the company's existing models. But this time, buyers could fare the other way. The word on the latest industry tip is that Samsung may not offer any discount and raise prices instead of offering price cuts for its entire range of Galaxy A series in India. What sounds like could be a significant hike will hit several popular mid-range models, making them slightly pricier just weeks before the new lot appears. The move seems to be prompted by increasing costs of components, in particular, memory chips, and is part of a macro trend already spotted recently with smartphone launches across brands.

Samsung Expected to Raise Galaxy A Series Prices

If the latest leak is to be believed, Samsung will hike up the prices of all members of its Galaxy A series phones by roughly Rs 1,000 in India. Samsung Galaxy A56 is expected to witness a more significant price bump of Rs 2,000.

Why Are Galaxy A Prices Increasing?

There is one thing that’s most likely causing the price increase: increased prices for memory chips. The global memory market is currently facing upbeat pressure on the back of strong demand for HBM and DDR5 DRAM chips mainly used in AI data centres.

This demand surge has led to supply limitations, and subsequently price increases, in the memory market. Because DRAM and storage chips are key components in smartphones, companies have started to shift the higher costs onto consumers.
