Vivo has officially confirmed that its much-anticipated Android 16-based OriginOS 6 will make its debut on October 10 in China, followed by a global launch on October 15. This is big news for vivo and iQOO users worldwide, as OriginOS has previously remained exclusive to China, while international models shipped with Funtouch OS. Now, for the first time, global users—including those in India—will get to experience vivo’s redesigned software.

The vivo X300 series and the iQOO 15 will be the first smartphones to boot OriginOS 6 out of the box. For existing devices, rollout schedules are expected to be announced later, possibly in November.

OriginOS 6 Preview Program in India

Vivo and iQOO’s Indian branches have also announced a Preview Program for OriginOS 6. Registration is set to open on September 29, though neither brand has shared details about the registration process or the complete list of eligible models.

However, vivo India’s use of the #vivoXSeries hashtag in its X post suggests that the preview will initially be limited to the X Series smartphones, with more models joining later.

For iQOO fans, Shankar Singh, DGM of Product Management at iQOO India, confirmed that the iQOO 13 will be the first iQOO device to receive the OriginOS 6 preview in the country.

OriginOS has long been recognised for its visually striking designs, fluid animations and comprehensive customisation options. Now with OriginOS 6, vivo promises:

- Optimise Android 16 features for enhanced performance

- Deliver a redesigned home screen with dynamic widgets

- Expand personalisation tools for wallpapers, themes, and widgets

While details remain under wraps, vivo and iQOO's move from Funtouch OS to OriginOS globally could prove one of the biggest shifts they have ever undertaken in software.
