We sometimes make compromises over a few things, but something that we never compromise on is our privacy, especially our conversations and chats that might consist of sensitive information, so let me guide you through the process of making your chats on WhatsApp safer.
For privacy-conscious people like me fortunately WhatsApp has a built-in function that allows you to lock a particular chat if you want to, to keep it away from those snoopy friends of yours who are always peeping in your stuff. You can secure specific conversations by using Face ID, a fingerprint, or a password. You can access this feature on both iOS and Android.
WhatsApp Chat Lock, What Is It?
It is a feature that lets you secure a particular chat. After the chat is locked it is transferred to a different "Locked Chats" folder that can be accessed only with a specific authentication process, this is most useful when you are using a borrowed or a shared device.

It also gives you the flexibility to just lock a particular conversation rather than locking the whole app itself. In fact, even the notifications from these chats are hidden, and you can choose how to lock it, you can either use a PIN, password, fingerprint or a Face ID.
How To Lock Chats On Your Android
-firstly open WhatsApp and select the chat you want to lock
- Press and hold the specific name/group till it's selected then click on the 3-dot drop-down menu on the top right
- In that select the option that says "Lock Chat" from the drop-down menu
- Then you can configure authentication according to the instructions
How To Lock Chats On iOS
-Open WhatsApp and select the conversation you want to lock.
-Tap the contact or group name at the top.
-Select "Chat Lock."
-Authenticate by enabling Face ID or using a passcode.
How To Unlock Chats On Android
-Scroll to the top of the chat list and select "Locked Chats."
-Verify your identity using a pattern, Face ID, or passcode.

How To Unlock Chats On iOS
-Navigate to the "Locked Chats" section.
-Authenticate using your passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID.
-Open the chat, long-press the contact's name, and disable the lock.
Create A Secret Code For Your WhatsApp Chats
Now to make things even more secure WhatsApp is introducing a Secret Code feature that is different from your usual unlock patterns or passcodes. In other words, this can be used instead of patterns, Face ID or other ways such as biometrics to lock your chats.
To do that follow these steps
-Go to "Locked Chats."
-Tap the 3-dot menu in the Locked Chats section.
-Select the "Chat lock settings" option.
-Enable the secret code feature here.
-Set a memorable secret code to protect your chats.
And you are done. You need to enter this secret code in the WhatsApp search box to access the closed chats section after you are done registering it. You can also unlock the chat by tapping on the locked chat option and entering your secret code.
Here’s how you can hide locked WhatsApp chats:
-Go to the Locked Chats section.
-Tap the 3-dot menu and select Chat lock settings.
-Enable the Hide locked chats option.
-Once enabled, your locked chats will be hidden from the WhatsApp contacts list.
This method is more secure than simply archiving chats, as it offers better protection.
So go on, don't wait and secure your chats now!
