WhatsApp, a popular instant messaging app, is a regular headline maker for tweaking its user interface one step at a time and improving the user experience. After an updated document attachment menu, the Meta-owned app is now releasing a functionality for beta users through which they can link an email ID with the WhatsApp account, according to news tracker WABetaInfo.

According to the report, the feature is undergoing testing on iOS and Android on versions "23.23.1.77" and "2.23.24.10". It is currently available for some testers and will debut for more users soon. The update brings an extra account access method for users if it is not possible to generate a six-digit code using SMS functionality for some reason.

Based on the screengrab shared by the WhatsApp enthusiast, the 'Email Address' section will sit within the 'Account' settings. Users can link their email ID with the account to add a second mechanism to access the profile. This will be helpful in situations when a call or SMS-based authentication is not an available option for account login.

After the initial email verification setup, users can log in with this credential beside the typical six-digit code. Plus, the requirement of a working mobile number will still be there to create new accounts. The choice of linking or not linking an email ID depends on the user, as it is an optional offering. It will likely roll out for the general public after the beta testing.

iPhone users can update the app via TestFlight and Android testers can head to the Google Play Store to download and install the above-stated version to check the availability of the feature. On a related, the company is testing a tweaked UI for the documents attachment menu to allow direct selection of photos and video of up to 2GB and send them without any quality loss.
