META-OWNED WhatsApp regularly tunes its beta build to add new features and improve the UI experience for users. In the latest attempt, the instant messaging app is testing a new keyboard layout, a larger about section and more features in the beta build.

Here is a detailed break up of features undergoing development across smartphone platforms.

New keyboard UI

According to WABetaInfo, the chat giant is working on a new keyboard design in the beta build labelled - 2.23.9.2 on Android. The new tweaked design has relocated the selection bar to the top from the bottom. Further, an array that enabled the user to hover between emoji categories is not visible. It might become a thing of the past. Currently, the feature is under development and is not live for beta testers, the platform adds.

New about for contacts

The platform tracker adds that WhatsApp is adding an extra line in the about section. Beta version 2.23.8.25 is a compatible build. With the change, a tester can now read a longer description of up to two lines without tapping on the profile details of an account. The change also appears on the contact list when a user forwards a message in this build.

New text editor on iOS

Thirdly, a new text editor is available on the iOS beta build - 23.8.0.73. According to the platform tracker, a new option to switch between fonts, change text alignment, alter background colour and more are among new additions in the testing build.

Refreshed lock screen on iOS

A new lock screen UI on iOS is undergoing testing in the version marked 23.8.0.71. The new lock screen UI has the Face ID icon in the centre with the accompanying text moved to the top (earlier it was in the middle).

Meanwhile, a sticker maker is rolling out on WhatsApp for iOS 23.7.82 build. A user can paste a photo directly into WhatsApp and it will process the stickers from the image. This functionality is rolling out in iOS 16. WABetaInfo reports no plans to bring it to an older version.
