WHATSAPP is testing a host of new features such as silence unknown callers, admin review, bottom navigation bar and GIF auto-play via its beta program, according to WABetaInfo. While the first three features are undergoing scrutiny via the Google Play Beta Program, the last one is in development via the TestFlight beta program on iOS.

WhatsApp privacy feature: Silence unknown callers

The Silence unknown callers feature is rolling out in the beta version '2.23.10.7' on Android, the platform tracker reports. It is located within the 'Privacy' option in the settings. As the name suggests, it allows the tester to mute unknown calls. However, the record log will continue to appear in the 'Calls' tab of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp messages feature: Admin review

Admin review is rolling out on beta version '2.23.10.8' on Android. It is under development and not live for beta testers as of now. However, the updates tracker gave us a glimpse into the functionality.

With the feature turned on, members of a group on WhatsApp can report messages to group admins. Once the conversation reaches the admin, they can review the request and delete the message for everyone.

The flagged messages "will only be visible" to group chiefs within a new section within group info.

WhatsApp design update: Bottom navigation bar

A new UI update with a new bottom navigation bar is rolling out via beta version '2.23.10.6' on Android. It is available to a few testers. A similar menu placement has been live on iOS for a while now.

In the screengrab, the change is visible with options - Chats, Communities, Status and Calls.

Whatsapp media feature: GIF auto-play

The functionality to auto-play GIFs is available to some testers on beta for iOS version '23.9.0.75' via TestFlight. As the name suggests, GIF media is auto-played initially in the update once the user taps on a particular chat from the chat list.
