Whatsapp, a popular instant messaging application, is known for testing new features regularly and releasing them later across smartphone apps. The company is now working to bring a new 'default chat theme' feature for iPhone users. According to WABetaInfo, the enhancement was spotted in the iOS beta '24.11.10.70' version. Due to its 'under development' character, the new change is not rolling out to beta testers.
According to the WhatsApp tracker, the change comes after the company was spotted developing a theme feature to customise the colour of chat bubbles. The changes were aimed at making the chat experience more personalised on iPhone by selecting a preferred colour. Building on this personalisation, the company is now developing a 'Default chat theme' setting on iOS.

Testers must keep their beta app updated (via TestFlight) to try the option whenever it starts rolling out. As per the screengrab shared in the report, users can choose the 'Default chat theme' from Settings. It will be available in an upcoming version of WhatsApp and users may opt for one of the five colour branding shades and wallpapers.

Once a user selects a colour, the chat wallpaper and message bubble will automatically adjust to a similar shade. The dual customisation will help users gain a coherent experience and enjoy improved aesthetics within the UI of WhatsApp. If you customise the theme, this will only reflect in your chats and not the recipient's UI to ensure a personal experience.
Speaking of other updates on iOS, the company is also working on an audience control option for status updates. Available in beta '24.10.10.75' TestFlight version, users can choose to share status with 'All contacts' or 'Specific contacts' on WhatsApp. As for other significant updates, the company was spotted working on a feature to generate profile pictures using AI.
