WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging platform, tests new features and enhancements across its mobile and PC platforms. In a recent update on Android, the company was spotted working on a feature that may allow a WhatsApp user to add people or groups to 'lists' within the app, according to WABetaInfo. The feature is undergoing development in the WhatsApp for Android beta "2.24.18.9" version.
According to the report, the feature is not rolling out to beta testers at the moment due to its 'under-development' character. The company was spotted working on a 'Lists' feature earlier this month and now more details about the feature are cropping up. Lists in WhatsApp aim to offer users a more organised and efficient medium to manage people and groups.
The feature may allow faster communication with people or groups. WhatsApp is now planning to add the option to create and customise lists. Beta testers must keep their app updated from the Google Play Store to ensure they get to try the feature once it starts rolling out. As per the screengrab shared in the report, the 'Lists' feature may be present within the Settings between the 'Privacy' and 'Favourites' options.
While creating a list, users may get the option to add people and groups to a custom list for better organisation. Plus, users can assign a name to the list. The usage of emojis may also be allowed in the name to allow improved personalisation. With lists, you may get the option to target communication with select people and engage with them faster on WhatsApp.
This will also allow tailored content-sharing while organising contacts and groups within categories based on the requirements and needs of the user. The tool could be similar to the organisation feature 'labels' that exist on WhatsApp Business. However, 'lists' could serve a better purpose when it comes to categorisation and may replace tag-based labels in future for better content management.
