JE Technology Desk: WhatsApp regularly grab eyeballs for introducing new features in its beta channel. We try to bring the best ones for you so that you stay updated about what may debut on the instant messaging app. In the latest update, the company is rolling out a feature that allows the user to link a WhatsApp account on the web version using the phone number instead of the Quick Response (QR) code.
According to WABetaInfo, the functionality is available to "some" beta testers on Android. The '2.23.14.18' version is a compatible build, according to the report. However, a point worth noting is that we could see the feature on our non-beta stable version of WhatsApp. Plus, the report mentions: "some lucky users" may be able to see the option.
This is particularly helpful for people in scenarios where the camera is not functioning or scanning the QR code from the linked device is not an available option. Users can try updating their app from the Google Play Store to check if they make it to the list of eligible users. It helps the user link the account with a secondary device easily.
The feature can be traced in the 'Linked devices' menu. Here's how you can link a web account with a phone number.
WhatsApp Web: Link With Mobile Number
Step 1: Head to the official website of 'WhatsApp Web'
Step 2: Click on 'Link with phone number' option placed below in the QR Code
Step 3: Enter the phone number of the account you wish to link and proceed
Step 4: Now open WhatsApp on your smartphone
Step 5: Head to the 'Linked Devices' from the three dots icon at the top right
Step 6: Tap on 'Link a device' and then tap 'Link with phone number instead'
Step 7: Enter the 8-character code displayed on the browser screen
According to the report, this feature is only available for linking a device on WhatsApp Web and not a mobile phone.
