WHATSAPP consistently test features and improvements within its app across platforms. In the latest attempt, the Meta-owned app is working on the capability to let the iPad function as a companion device in an Android beta build, reports WABetaInfo. Beyond this, the instant messaging app is also rolling out a new interface on the main screen of Android in its beta program. Here are more details on both features.
WhatsApp Beta Update: iPad as Companion Device
The WhatsApp tracker discovered the good news in the beta build - 2.23.12.12 for Android. In the screenshot shared, the iPad is visible in the 'Linked devices' section. This functionality is currently in the development stage. Hence not ready for a wide beta release.
However, whenever the feature debuts in the future, this would ease multi-device access to the instant messaging app. While WABetaInfo first reported on a near identical functionality in August 2021, "things may be very different now," it notes.
WhatsApp Beta Feature: New Tabs Placement
In the recent beta feature release article, the WhatsApp enthusiast also shared that the company is releasing a new layout for tabs at the bottom in Android beta build 2.23.11.19.
This means the Communities, Chats, Status, and Calls will shift to the bottom rather than the top of the app interface. The new placement is rearranged in the order: Chats, Calls, Communities, and Status. It will help users with a big screen to better switch between these tabs.
A similar option is already available in the public build of WhatsApp on iOS. If all goes well, we can expect these features to make it to the final stable version of the app in the future.
Meanwhile, the news platform reported that the company is releasing companion mode on iOS. With the feature, an iPhone user can link up to four devices to one WhatsApp account. Plus, the chats across all these devices will be end-to-end encrypted. Besides all this, the company is also working on screen sharing, status archive and other features within the app.
