WHATSAPP, a popular instant messaging app, is a regular attention seeker for introducing new features. In the latest move, the company is rolling out group profile icons in the latest stable update of the app on Android. Moreover, the company is also working on a new switch UI under the Material Design 3 guide and a redesigned keyboard in the beta version. Here are more details on these three updates.
WhatsApp Update: Group Profile Icons
With the new enhancement, the profile picture of a user will appear next to the messages they send in a WhatsApp group. It will help better recognise the sender and ensure easy separation between chats. This will also help differentiate similar names.

If no photo is posted on the account or is private, an empty colour-coded icon will appear next to the message. Further, we can confirm that the update is rolling out in the stable build. You can update the app from the Google Play Store or install the latest test build if enrolled in the Google Play Beta program.
WhatsApp Update: Switch Material Design 3
According to WABetaInfo, the company is working to bring UI tweaks by adopting the Material 3 Design guidelines. In the latest beta update labelled '2.23.12.3,' the Meta-owned app is working on updated app switches within the settings. In the screenshot shared by the news tracker, the UI change is evident in the Notifications panel.
These toggles turn green when switched on and grey when turned off. The new buttons are shaped in a round cylindrical form with a dot at the edges. The update will bring aesthetic improvements to the otherwise traditional toggles. Redesigned switches are under development and not ready for a beta release at the moment, the WhatsApp enthusiast adds.
WhatsApp Update: Redesigned Keyboard
The company is also developing an updated keyboard layout in the Android beta build - 2.23.12.8. The new UI has an emoji category bar at the bottom and options to switch between GIFs and stickers at the top centre. According to the news platform, the feature is under development and not releasing for users.
