WhatsApp, a popular instant communication application, continues to test new features in its app across Android and iOS. In the latest move, the social media giant is experimenting with a feature to conduct polls within channels. According to WABetaInfo, the feature will arrive in a future version of WhatsApp. Secondly, the company is also reintroducing the muted status option for select users. Here are more details about both these developments.
Polls Within WhatsApp Channels
As per the report, the feature is under development on the Android "2.23.24.12" beta version and may roll out for testers in a later build. While the feature has not been released for beta users, the news outlet shared a preview of the upcoming feature. The polls option is visible next to the Gallery and Camera icons in the menu, which will allow users to create polls to take feedback and limit responses to one for each user.
It will be similar to the Poll option in groups and chats. But in Channels, the poll votes will not be disclosed and shall be hidden for privacy. For the unversed, the phone number remains hidden from all members and even the admins while voting on a poll or joining a new channel.

The polls option can be useful for gathering feedback from followers and initiating active conversation rather than simple emojis. It will make the conversation feel more connected and interactive. The feature will likely debut for Android testers soon after the development.
WhatsApp Status To Regain Muted Status
In another report, the news outlet noted that WhatsApp is restoring 'Muted status' inside the new Updates tab. Discovered in the '2.23.24.11' update in the Android beta build, the feature will be restored for users who do not engage with any channels. You can update the beta app from the Google Play Store to check if the changes are rolling out for your version. With the introduction of WhatsApp Channels, the company made major changes to the Status tab.
