WhatsApp continues to grab headlines in the technological landscape for its new features that are rolling out and undergoing testing. While the company recently unveiled the video messages option for chats, a new feature that will ease the process of adding members to a group is rolling out to testers in the beta build on Android and iOS.
The new option to add members will be available within the group chat on iOS beta build - 23.15.1.77 on Testflight and Android beta version - 2.23.16.10 on Google Play Store. However, the blog notes that the option may be available to some testers in a previous build.
The "Add Participants" option will appear in the group chats at the top, right below the video and audio call icon and group name. It lets users add members to a particular group without heading to group info to add more participants. The option allows multiple selections to add to a group chat from the list, provided the app has the necessary permission.
On iOS, it is visible in blue text in dark mode with a cross mark at the right. On Android, the text is visible in green with a cross mark at the right end. While not a significant addition, this will further ease and speed up the process of adding participants to a group. Further, this will also act as a reminder for members to add members once they scroll to the top. This feature will be rolling out to a few beta testers and be publicly available in the future.
As for official updates, WhatsApp recently announced instant video messages that will roll out to users in the coming weeks. This will allow users to record and share short videos of up to 60 seconds from the chat. These messages are end-to-end encrypted.
