Elon Musk regularly gets media attention because of his online activity on X (formerly called Twitter). The microblogging platform is continuing to reshape its identity from just being a text-focused app to an "all-in-one" solution for the diverse needs of users ranging from social media to banking. In that endeavour, Musk has now asked people to report from the ground using the live video features of X.

For the unaware, the billionaire had visited the US-Mexico border to view the crisis of illegal immigration from the Eagle Pass. Musk live-streamed his trip to let users gain real-time insights into the conditions around the migrant crisis.

After about a 15-minute livestream, Musk posted: "The border crisis is worse every day! New York City is buckling under the load already." Musk's livestream has raked over 26 million views.

He later said: "Please encourage more citizen journalism! You can do live video easily from your phone. More on-the-ground reporting from regular citizens will change the world." "I hope people around the world engage in citizen journalism, so we know what's truly happening and we get real-time, on-the-ground coverage!" he added.

Users on X added their reactions to the update. While one user said the video could be improved, another thought it was great. Another user said: "Unedited pure footage will be a HUGE positive." One more added: "That's the future for sure."

In a previous post, Musk had added that the quality to stream in 4K will arrive soon after X fine-tunes other features on the platform. "4K is definitely coming, but we need to complete several other features first," he said on the development around live streams.

The company also improved the visibility of live streams via a bar that appears at the top of a user feed. This eases the process of engaging with a stream and expands its reach.
