The next-gen Xbox console is emerging as Microsoft's most aspirational gaming hardware to date. Xbox President Sarah Bond called it "very premium" and a "high-end curated experience" in a recent Mashable interview. While she refrained from getting into the details, Bond reassured fans that the new console is a significant technology advancement and a unique evolution in the way gamers consume gaming. She also teased that players can already get a glimpse of this trajectory in the just-released Asus ROG Xbox Ally handheld.

Its new console will look to advance Microsoft's vision of combining console and PC gaming into a single unified ecosystem. The concept seems to extend from the Xbox Ally's Windows-based platform, whereby gamers can access not only the Xbox Store but also third-party stores such as Steam and the Epic Games Store. In this way, the approach might open up the Xbox ecosystem much more widely and flexibly than ever before.

Bond's comments echo Microsoft's larger ambition of producing hardware committed to gaming while embracing more software flexibility. The emphasis appears to be on providing a curated experience — one that showcases well-chosen content, high-end performance, and effortless cross-platform compatibility.

Posts circulating online indicate that the next Xbox might come with a Windows-inspired interface in addition to the traditional Xbox dashboard. Other rumours indicate native support for more than one digital shopfront, allowing players greater liberty in where and how they buy games.

Following the failure of the Xbox Series X and S to match the selling pace of the PlayStation 5, Microsoft appears determined to rebrand the Xbox as a premium gaming console. A premium price could go along with the next console, being supported by enhanced hardware performance and advanced software features.

Meanwhile, Microsoft hopes to restore consumer trust after recent price increases for the consoles as well as subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass. By highlighting a "curated experience", the firm seems to be sacrificing quantity in favour of quality — concentrating on exclusive content, close platform tie-in, and seamless performance across devices.
