Telangana News: A 34-year-old man was tied to a tree and beaten to death by his former lover and her husband on Friday in Nalgonda district, Telangana. The crime took place at Nomula village in Nakrekal mandal.
The victim, N Janaiah, worked as a real estate agent and sheep trader. He was a resident of Nomula and lived with his mother, N Prameela. Janaiah was unmarried and had allegedly been in a long-term relationship with a married woman from the same village, despite resistance from both families.
According to Nalgonda Superintendent of Police Sharat Chandra Pawar, the relationship had previously drawn objections from community elders. Eight months ago, the woman had filed a police complaint accusing Janaiah of harassment. He was arrested and sent to judicial custody but was released on bail after about a month.
After maintaining distance for some time, Janaiah allegedly began contacting the woman again. His mother, Prameela, claimed that the woman would agree to meet him whenever he had money. On Friday, she reportedly called him to her house, possibly suggesting she was alone.
However, once Janaiah arrived, the woman and her husband, Nagaraju, allegedly threw chilli powder into his eyes and began attacking him with sticks and fists. They tied him to a tree in front of their home and continued the assault.
Hearing the commotion, local residents informed Janaiah’s family, who rushed to the spot and called police. He was taken to a government hospital in Nalgonda, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Following a complaint filed by his mother, police registered a case of murder and arrested the accused couple. The body was handed over to the family after a postmortem examination on Saturday.
The incident has triggered tension in the village. Janaiah’s family members held a protest, demanding justice. Nakrekal Circle Inspector Rajasekhar said that additional police personnel have been deployed in Nomula to maintain law and order.
