Telangana is set to experience relief from the ongoing heatwave as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts thunderstorms and scattered showers across multiple districts from March 21 to 24. A drop in temperatures, increased cloud cover and gusty winds are expected to bring temporary relief from the intense heat.

IMD Hyderabad has issued an orange alert for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds (40-50 kmph) and hailstorms on March 23 in Nizamabad, Siddipet, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts. Meanwhile, a yellow alert with gusty winds (30-40 kmph) has been issued for several other districts, including Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, Hyderabad and Mahabubnagar on March 23 and 24.

Before the anticipated rainfall, Telangana will continue to endure heatwave conditions in districts such as Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Jagtial, where temperatures are reaching 40-41 degrees Celsius. Hyderabad recorded a maximum temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

On March 20, temperatures may slightly dip to 37 degrees Celsius, with increased cloud formation providing some relief. Further cooling is anticipated between March 21 and 23, with temperatures dropping to 35-36 degrees Celsius, along with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms.

While the showers are expected to lower daytime temperatures, humidity levels may rise, causing discomfort in the evenings. The IMD has advised residents to stay indoors during heavy rain and avoid open areas during thunderstorms.
