List Of Delhi CM From 1950 To 2025: Since 1952, Delhi has had numerous chief ministers, all of whom were instrumental in the city's growth. Chaudhary Brahm Prakash Yadav became the first Chief Minister, who assumed office in 1952. India's capital city Delhi's development has been influenced by the leaders who have held office over the years, including Gurmukh Nihal Singh, Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit and Arvind Kejriwal

Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi elections 2025, marking a triumph after a 27-year break. Now BJP has announced Rekha Gupta as Delhi's new Chief Minister replacing AAP leader Aatishi Marlena. Before Rekha Gupta, three women have served Delhi as CM. They were Sheila Dixit, Sushma Swaraj and Aatishi Marlena.

Previously, BJP leader Pravesh Verma, the son of former chief minister of Delhi Sahib Singh Verma was expected to take the oath of office as the next CM, but now he has been announced as Vice Chief Minister of Delhi.

List of Delhi Chief Ministers (1950-2025) and Their Contributions

1. Brahm Prakash Yadav (1952-1955)

The first chief minister of Delhi was Brahm Prakash Yadav. He concentrated on enhancing fundamental infrastructure and rehabilitating refugees following Partition. When Delhi lost its statehood in 1956, his term came to an end.  

2. Gurmukh Nihal Singh (1955-1956)

For a short time, Gurmukh Nihal Singh assumed the role of chief minister. Before the position was abolished, he sought to improve public services and fortify Delhi's government.

3. Madan Lal Khurana (1993-1996)

When Delhi regained its sovereignty, Madan Lal Khurana was appointed chief minister. He concentrated on building public transport, flyovers, and roadways. His administration also enhanced the provision of energy and water.  

4. Sahib Singh Verma (1996-1998)

Sahib Singh Verma worked in public transport and education. He started initiatives to make roads and schools better. However, political shifts caused his term to end early.

5. Sushma Swaraj ( Oct 1998- Dec 1998) 

CM Sushma Swaraj held the position for a few months. She prioritised women's education and safety. She was instrumental in the establishment of women's helplines despite her brief term.

6. Sheila Dikshit (1998-2013)

The longest-serving chief minister of Delhi was Sheila Dikshit. With the Metro, improved highways, and flyovers, she revolutionised the capital city. Delhi is now more livable because of her government's improvements to the water and electricity supplies.

7. Arvind Kejriwal (2013-2014, 2015-2024)

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal prioritised reforming education, water, and power for free. Under his administration, women were given free bus transportation and government schools were upgraded. In addition, he started Mohalla Clinics to work on healthcare. However, Kejriwal and his allies were accused of Liquor's scam due to which he had to be jailed. 

8. Atishi Marlena (2024-2025)

Atishi Marlena held the CM position for a short period while Arvind Kejriwal was jailed for a wine and liquor scam in Delhi. She talked about prioritising environmental sustainability, women's safety and education.
