The legal battle between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie over the former French winery, Château Miraval, has been going on in court. A new set of documents has been filed where Pitt mentioned that he has been seeking USD 35 million in damages related to the actress’s 2021 sale of her stake in the vineyard to Stoli Group’s wine division, Tenute del Mondo. It is a move he claimed to have violated their prior agreement as co-owners.
As per the filings submitted, Pitt’s legal team included email exchanges from 2023 between the couple’s lawyers. One among them is the November 2023 email in which Jolie’s attorneys directly referred to the substantial damages Pitt is pursuing. Angelina Jolie's legal representative wrote, “The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation, he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages. As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.”
Another email was from October 2023, which revealed that Jolie’s team was arguing that Pitt has “ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations.” They also criticised Pitt’s refusal to share the documents about the four-year nondisclosure agreement related to his alleged personal misconduct. As per Jolie’s attorney, the records are central to the heart of our case and must be produced. On the other hand, Brad Pitt’s lawyer stated that after Jolie sold her shares, her lawyer proposed an even broader mutual non-disparagement clause connected to their divorce.

Brad Pitt first filed a suit in 2022, which claimed Jolie sold her shares without the latter’s consent. They alleged that the decision violated their mutual understanding. The actress denied such an agreement, accusing Pitt of attempting to force her silence regarding alleged past abuse.
These allegations refer to the 2016 private jet incident when Jolie claimed that Brad was verbally and physically aggressive. At that time, Pitt was investigated but not charged. Even Angelina Jolie did not take any criminal action against the actor.
