Rory Callum Sykes, a former child star and motivational speaker, tragically passed away in the recent Los Angeles wildfires. The British-born actor, who was blind and had cerebral palsy, died at his Malibu home on January 8. The 32-year-old rose to fame when he appeared on the 1998 British TV series Kiddy Kapers and later dedicated his life to advocating for individuals living with disabilities.

Rory was residing at his family’s 17-acre Mount Malibu TV Studios estate, where he had his own cottage. On January 8, the estate, which included Rory’s home, was engulfed by flames. His mother, Shelley Sykes, shared the heartbreaking news on social media platform X on Thursday. She described Rory as a "beautiful" and "wonderful" person and expressed her profound sorrow over his tragic death.

"He overcame so much with surgeries and therapies to regain his sight and to be able to learn to walk. Despite the pain, he still enthused about travelling the world with me from Africa to Antarctica," Shelley Sykes wrote on X.

Shelley Sykes Recalls Tragic Attempt To Save Rory From Wildfires

Shelley Sykes recounted her desperate attempts to save Rory, explaining that she tried to extinguish the wildfire cinders on the roof of the cottage using a hose. However, she was unable to do so because the water supply had been turned off. This revelation has added to the heartbreak, as Shelley was powerless to prevent the devastating loss of her son.

"He said, 'Mom, leave me,' and no mom can leave their kid. And I've got a broken arm—I couldn't lift him, I couldn't move him," Sykes tearfully told Australia's 10 News First.

Born with cerebral palsy, Rory lived a life of resilience and advocacy. Despite his physical challenges, he became a motivational speaker, inspiring many with his determination and positive outlook. His appearances on Kiddy Kapers were celebrated for his talent and courage, helping him gain widespread recognition at a young age.
