Eminem's latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking his 12th studio album and 11th to reach the top spot. This achievement ends Taylor Swift's impressive 12-week run at No. 1 with her album, The Tortured Poets Department. Swift's album made a historic debut, setting the record for the biggest streaming week for an album in history with 891.34 million album streams stateside, according to Luminate.
Released in April, The Tortured Poets Department debuted at No. 1 and held the top position for three months, making Swift the only woman to achieve such a feat. Her album surpassed the previous record held by Whitney Houston's 1987 album, Whitney, which spent its first 11 weeks at No. 1.
Swift's album also tied Morgan Wallen's 2023 album, One Thing At A Time, which also spent 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1 after its debut. Despite this remarkable achievement, only one album has surpassed both Swift's and Wallen's records: Stevie Wonder's 1976 masterpiece, Songs in the Key of Life, which spent 13 weeks at No. 1 after debuting in the top spot and 14 weeks in total.

Eminem's The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) has pushed The Tortured Poets Department to No. 4 on the Billboard 200. In its second slot is the Kpop boy band ENHYPEN's ROMANCE:UNTOLD, followed by country artist Zach Bryan's The Great American Bar Scene at No. 3.
Swift's 12-week reign at No. 1 is a testament to her enduring popularity and the massive appeal of The Tortured Poets Department. However, Eminem's new album demonstrates his continuing relevance and ability to captivate audiences with his music. The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) marks yet another milestone in Eminem's storied career, proving his staying power in the ever-evolving music industry.
The competition on the Billboard 200 remains fierce, with new entries and long-standing favourites vying for the top positions. Swifties may be disappointed by the end of her historic run, but the success of The Tortured Poets Department has already secured its place in music history. Meanwhile, Eminem's fans have another reason to celebrate as he continues to break records and push boundaries with his music.
