Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee was placed under lockdown on Thursday afternoon after reports of an active shooter near the campus’s Student Union. The university’s emergency alert system issued a chilling warning urging students and staff to shelter in place and stay away from doors and windows.

The incident unfolded around 12:20 pm ET, when campus police responded to a reported shooting. Within minutes, law enforcement officers, including those from local, state, and federal agencies, including the FBI, were either on site or en route to the scene.

“Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures,” the university stated in an urgent alert shared on X.

 - According to the New York Times, citing the Tallahassee Democrat, a police spokesperson confirmed that one individual has been taken into custody and that several people have been injured.

 - A spokesperson for Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare told CNN that the hospital is “actively receiving and treating patients” from the shooting incident. They added that the situation is still developing, and no specific details are available at this time.

 - “Our prayers are with our FSU family and state law enforcement is actively responding,” Gov. Ron DeSantis wrote on X.
