US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump are scheduled to meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday, according to the White House. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that the meeting, set for 11 am ET (9:30pm IST), is being held at the outgoing president’s request.

“At President Biden’s invitation, President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Additional details to follow,” the statement said.

Such meetings between outgoing and incoming presidents are a common tradition after elections. However, it is worth noting that when Trump lost the 2020 election, he did not invite Biden for a similar meeting.

Earlier on Wednesday, Joe Biden also congratulated President-elect Donald Trump and expressed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition of power. Biden highlighted the importance of unity and promised to work towards bringing the nation together during this crucial period.

Donald Trump has secured a second term as US president, defeating Kamala Harris in a surprising turn of events. This victory marks one of the most significant comebacks in American electoral history, making Trump the first president since Grover Cleveland in 1888 to return to the White House after being voted out four years prior.

Joe Biden is expected to address several important matters, including the peaceful transfer of power, during his meeting with President-elect Donald Trump before leaving office. This meeting will be a crucial part of the transition process, ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities between the outgoing and incoming administrations.
