Google has announced that their generative AI search experience, dubbed the Search Generative Experience (SGE), will be made available to teens in the United States. This approach seeks to give teenage users, aged 13 to 17, the benefits of generative AI in their search activities while also prioritising their safety and development needs.

Google said in a blog post on Thursday that it was expanding access to SGE (Search Generative Experience) in Search Labs to additional users, particularly US teens (13–17), as of today. Teenagers who have Google Accounts will be able to join up for Search Labs starting this week, giving them access to a few Labs activities through the Google app or Chrome desktop.

With help from research and teen development specialists, Google has added further security measures to the SGE experience for teenagers. Google made this choice after noticing that SGE has gained popularity among younger people. Notably, customers who are between the ages of 18 and 24 and who frequently ask inquiries in a more casual manner have expressed great satisfaction with the service.

Meanwhile, Google has added a new 'About this result' to SGE to increase transparency. This tool allows users who have chosen to participate in Search Labs to learn more about the context of AI-generated responses. It gives an explanation of how SGE produced the response and provides details on the underlying technology.

Google anticipates extending "About this result" to specific links inside SGE answers in the near future. Users will be able to comprehend the web pages that support the data presented in AI-powered summaries better as a result.

Google is dedicated to protecting the safety and user experience of teens as they explore the advantages of generative AI, even as it continues to develop in AI-driven search experiences.
