Some fishermen captured a crocodile that was terrorising the locals on the banks of the Ganga river in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Wednesday. The reptile was trapped in a nylon net at the Civil Lines Hospital Ghat, where a large crowd gathered to witness the event. Some people took selfies with the crocodile, while others put ‘tikka’ on the forehead of the reptile and worshipped it.
The Forest Department team later arrived and took the crocodile away stating that it would be released on the other side of the Ganga barrage. The forest officials stated that the crocodile might come nearby ghat of the river flow but the forest personnel have shifted it to another place that is safe for both the reptiles and humans.
The crocodile was spotted several times at Ranighat and Bhairoghat in the past few days, causing panic among the people visiting the ghats. The Forest Department team had tried to catch the crocodile earlier but failed to catch the reptile in their last attempts.
Meanwhile, when the crocodile reached the hospital ghat on Wednesday, fishermen prepared a net to catch the reptile following which a crowd surrounded them, starting worshipping the crocodile. Divisional Forest Officer Divya said that the Forest Department team took the crocodile and will be released into the water on the other side of the Ganga barrage.
