Train operations have commenced using the Electronic Interlocking (EI) system at Gorakhpur Junction, Gorakhpur Cantt, Nakaha Jungle, and Dominagarh stations. With this, all smaller stations around Gorakhpur Junction are now linked to the advanced system, allowing train movement with the click of a mouse on a computer display board. Officials said the EI system will significantly reduce the chances of human error.
On Friday, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), North Eastern Circle, Pranjeev Saxena inspected the Gorakhpur–Dominagarh third line and Gorakhpur–Nakaha Jungle double line, conducted a speed trial, and granted permission for operations. The CRS has fixed the maximum speed at 15 kmph on the Gorakhpur–Dominagarh third line and 50 kmph on the Gorakhpur–Nakaha double line.
Following the clearance, trains have started running on the third line between Dominagarh, Gorakhpur, and Gorakhpur Cantt, as well as on the double line towards Nakaha Jungle. Railway officials said the addition of these lines has expanded track capacity, enabling through-running of trains without halts at nearby stations.
According to Pankaj Kumar Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer, North Eastern Railway, the new lines will ease congestion, improve punctuality, and allow more trains to run at higher speeds based on demand. The move will also cut down transit time for freight trains.
Meanwhile, the five-day mega block at Gorakhpur Junction has concluded, and the operation of cancelled and diverted trains has resumed.
