Lucknow SCR Update: In a move aimed at managing the growing population and development demands around the state capital, the Uttar Pradesh government has notified regarding the formation of the Lucknow State Capital Region (SCR), drawing inspiration from the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR).
The decision, approved by Governor Anandiben Patel, has led to the establishment of the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region Development Authority (UP-SCRDA) to oversee the implementation of development projects and ensure effective resource management within the newly defined area.

The Lucknow SCR will encompass the state capital as well as the adjoining districts of Hardoi, Sitapur, Unnao, Rae Bareli and Barabanki, covering a total area of 27,826 square kilometres.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had initiated this project in September 2022, recognising the growing population pressures and demands for planned development in the regions surrounding Lucknow. "People from different cities want to come here and make their permanent residence. The population pressure is also increasing in the surrounding districts, and we often receive complaints of unplanned development. In such a situation, keeping in view the future requirements, the 'Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region' should be formed on the lines of the National Capital Region (NCR)," he had stated.
