Harrowing images of a married woman, bearing severe injury marks all over her body, have gone viral on social media, exposing a case of brutal domestic violence. The victim, who was beaten with an iron rod by her husband and in-laws, remains bedridden a month and a half after the assault. Her family has accused the Sadar Bazar police of inaction, as the accused remain at large.

The Incident

Assault Over Business Investment

The victim, Farha Naz, a resident of Rajban in Sadar Bazar, was married in 2018 to Mohammad Ajmal, a resident of Civil Lines in Roorkee, Haridwar. according to the family, the marriage initially progressed smoothly. However, the situation deteriorated when Ajmal began demanding money from Farha to invest in his business.

When the demand was not met, the situation escalated on October 11. Farha was allegedly assaulted inside her marital home by her husband Ajmal, mother-in-law Islaman Khatoon, sister-in-law Shabana, and an individual named Inam. The victim was beaten mercilessly with an iron rod until she fell unconscious. The assault was so severe that her nose began to bleed, a bone in her leg was broken, and she sustained injuries across her entire body.

Victim Left Bedridden And Dependent

Following the incident, the victim's family rushed her from Roorkee to a private hospital in Meerut. Although she has been discharged and returned home, her condition remains critical. She is unable to use her hands or go to the bathroom without assistance. Her family, who now have to feed her, expressed deep regret over the marriage seeing her in such a helpless state.

Police Inaction And Family Protest

The victim's family filed a case at the Sadar Bazar police station on October 15. However, frustrated by the lack of arrests after nearly 45 days, the family circulated the photos of the victim's injuries on social media to demand justice. They allege that the police have been lenient toward the accused.

Official Statement

Responding to the allegations, Circle Officer (CO) Navina Shukla stated that the case has been reviewed. She assured that a campaign is currently underway to apprehend wanted criminals and that the accused involved in this case will be arrested as part of this drive.
