The anticipated inauguration of the Noida International Airport in Jewar on October 30, expected to be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, now seems unlikely.
Speculation about an early inauguration grew after Union Civil Aviation Minister KinjarapuRammohan Naidu announced the October 30 date during an event in Ghaziabad in September. However, no official inauguration date has been confirmed by the central government, the state government, or Noida International Airport Limited.
Sources indicate that the new potential inauguration date could be in the first or second week of November, or postponed until January.
Reasons For Delay
Several factors have contributed to the shift in the timeline:
Construction Delays: Recent rains and festival holidays in October have slowed down the final stages of construction work.
Pending Licence: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has not yet issued the mandatory aerodrome licence to Noida Airport. An inauguration in October is impossible without this approval.
Project Status And Go-Forward Plan
The first phase of the airport, which includes one runway, is ready for inauguration. The construction agency has been given a target to finalise all remaining work by October 30. During a recent inspection by Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar, construction agencies promised to complete all work on time, and most tasks are now being finalised.
According to sources, the revised plan is as follows:
- Once all work is complete, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath may inspect the airport himself in November.
- Following the CM's inspection, a formal request for time will be sent to the Prime Minister for the inauguration.
- If the inauguration cannot be scheduled in November for any reason, the government is preparing to ensure that operations at Noida Airport commence in January by all means.
