Preparations have been accelerated to develop the road from ChhatrasanghChauraha to Shastri Chowk, one of the city's busiest routes, as a smart road. The project falls under the Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development Scheme (Urban) Phase-2 and is a significant initiative by the Municipal Corporation aimed at giving the city's main roads a modern, safe, and attractive appearance.

Project Details And Right Of Way (ROW)

The Right of Way (ROW) for this route has been set at 24 metres. The Municipal Corporation has started sending the necessary letters to the concerned departments in this regard.

However, the project includes a major modification in one section:

From Ambedkar Chowk To Shastri Chowk:

Reduced Width: The road width in this section will be reduced to 17 to 18 metres.

Reason: Officials state this decision was made to save major permanent structures from acquisition.

Impact:

- The Press Club building will be saved from demolition.

- The boundary wall of the Cooperative Bank will be removed.

A portion of the boundary wall of St. Andrew's College, located on the other side of the road, will also be demolished.

Caveat: According to the Municipal Corporation, while this reduction lessens acquisition complexities, the possibility of it creating a bottleneck in the future will remain.

From Chhatrasangh Chauraha (Swami Vivekananda Chowk) to Ambedkar Chowk:

Standard Width: The ROW in this section will remain at the planned 24 metres.

Impact:

- The green belt of the Vice-Chancellor's residence at DeenDayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University will be removed.

- Some shops belonging to the Municipal Corporation will be demolished.

- The Commissioner's Office, Vikas Bhawan, a public toilet, and a PNB Bank ATM located on the other side of the road will also be partially affected.

Smart Road Features

- Municipal Corporation officials stated that the project will include several modern features:

- Drains and ducts will be constructed on both sides of the road.

- Electrical wires will be laid underground through these ducts.
