A 14-year-old Kanwariya was killed and several others were injured in a tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district on Friday afternoon after being run over by a tractor-trolley. The incident occurred when a group of kanwariyas were resting beside their vehicle after collecting holy water from Kachla Ghat.
According to police, the accident took place around 3 PM in the Ujhani area. Ankit, a young devotee from Bareilly district, along with his group, had paused to rest near their tractor-trolley. Another tractor-trolley carrying a different group of kanwariyas accidentally ran over them, killing Ankit on the spot and leaving several others injured.
Circle Officer Devendra Singh told PTI, “Another group of kanwariyas in their tractor-trolley ran over Ankit and his group, who were resting beside their vehicle. The boy died on the spot while others were injured.”
Following the accident, tensions flared. Ankit’s group attacked the driver of the other tractor-trolley, identified as Lalla Babu, and set his vehicle on fire. A roadblock was also staged in protest, leading to a chaotic situation in the area.
Singh added that during the clash between the two groups of devotees, some individuals sustained injuries. Police teams reached the spot quickly, pacified the crowd, and removed the roadblock. The fire department also arrived in time to douse the flames engulfing the tractor-trolley.
The accused driver has been taken into custody, and Ankit’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities have assured that further investigation is underway.
